Duties of the PostThe post-holder will be based at GNCH and will assume the duties of a Locum Consultant Paediatric Neurologist, managing inpatient and outpatient care of children with neurological issues, providing clinical opinion and support to paediatric intensive care at GNCH and FRH, General Paediatrics, and other paediatric specialties at GNCH, RVI, and Freeman Hospital. The appointee will liaise with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), participate in complex patient case discussions, discharge planning meetings, and contribute to departmental initiatives including education, supervision, audit, and quality improvement. The role also includes outreach clinics within the region. Appropriate secretarial support, personal office, and computer facilities will be provided. The on-call system involves hot and cold weeks, with current hot weeks at 1 in 4.5 weeks, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on weekends, subject to change. During cold weeks, the appointee will hold clinics, participate in teaching, supervision, governance, and service development activities. Leave cover will be provided by colleagues, and the post-holder will share in covering colleagues' leave. Proposed Job PlanThe responsibilities, sessional commitments, and job plan will be based on service needs and the applicant’s interests, with a typical plan comprising 10 programmed activities—8.5 for Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 for Supporting Professional Activities. The plan will be reviewed after appointment, with annual appraisals and job planning as per Trust policy. The appointee is expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and audit. Engagement in research is encouraged, and participation in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health CPD programme will be supported.
