As we grow our internal development capabilities, we’re expanding our mechanical engineering team to support rapid prototyping and product development. Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior CAD Engineer with proficiency in Onshape to join our Development Department. The successful candidate will support the mechanical design team in creating and maintaining 3D models, drawings, and documentation for our aerial vehicles and subsystems. This is an ideal role for someone early in their career looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Responsibilities Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings in OnShape for mechanical and structural components of our drones. Support the development of prototype assemblies, brackets, and lightweight structures. Maintain product documentation and design history files, including BOMs and change logs. Assist in preparing models and technical drawings for manufacturing. Participate in design reviews, providing input on manufacturability and mechanical performance. Collaborate with software, electronics, and operations teams to integrate mechanical systems. Help with workshop activities such as basic assembly, fitting, and lab testing when needed. Follow design standards and contribute to improving design workflows and documentation processes. Collaborate with the engineering team to refine aerodynamic surfaces and structural components using CAD and simulation tools. Requirements Solid working knowledge ofOnshape, including assemblies and detailed drawings. Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and tolerancing. Familiarity with 3D printing or CNC processes. Ability to read and create technical drawings. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Proximity to Bristol, office based role. Hands-on experience with physical prototyping or mechanical builds. Experience with design for additive manufacturing. Understanding of version control systems. Basic understanding of aerodynamics and experience with CFD or flight simulation tools. Qualifications BSc, BEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field. Relevant internship or project experience is a plus.
