Go back Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Lead, FCAMHS at Portman ClinicThe closing date is 21 August 2025This is a fixed term 12months maternity cover for a consultant clinical or forensic psychologist to take on the role of Clinical Lead for Forensic CAMHS at the Portman Clinic (FCAMHS) providing the clinical leadership for the Tier 3 service. This post is 5 days a week, working from the clinic at the Portman Clinic. The post holder must be available every day to provide clinical support to staff, to cover intake and to attend internal and external meetings as needed. The post for a consultant level psychologist with expertise in forensic mental health, child and adolescent mental health, youth justice law and practice, and psychoanalytic theoretical training. Main duties of the jobThe post holder leads and manages a specialist forensic CAMHS service of multidisciplinary professionals as well as having their own clinical case load, weekly intake responsibilities, possible reflective practice facilitation and teaching. Along with the consultant psychiatrist in the team, the post holder is responsible for all leadership of the team and for maintaining the services good reputation through consistency continuity and excellence in service delivery. The post holder is expected to complete the following responsibilities amongst others: hold a specialist caseload of clients; manage and provide clinical supervision for FCAMHS staff; lead on research design, implementation and presentation activities, such as designing and implementing new projects, support team Quality Improvement projects; preparing and leading on research to produce a research paper each year; be responsible for the entire FCAMHS budget including physical assets; being involved in teaching and lecturing activities, both internally and externally such as bringing teaching on therapies and special areas pertaining to this population. Please see attached job description for additional details About usThe Portman FCAMHS team is principally a tertiary referral service for locality CAMHS teams (including CAMHS/YOT link workers) and associated agencies, such as children's social care and inpatient adolescent units. The Portman FCAMHS service model is underpinned by a psychodynamic and attachment based theoretical framework. The post holder will provide specialist case consultation and formulation, assessment and intervention planning for children and young people referred to FCAMHS by services across NCL and NEL. The core aim of the service is to support professional networks understand the complex needs of young people who present with significant risks to others, self and from others, adversity and mental health or neurodevelopmental presentations. The postholder will be required to undertake some direct specialist healthcare assessments when this is warranted by the complexity of the case. The service, however, does not offer direct interventions to young people and their families. The service is commissioned by The NCEL Provider Collaborative which was NHS England Specialised Commissioning (London Region) in partnership with NHS England Health and Justice (London Region), and forms part of a national network of similar FCAMHS services across the country. The post holder will need to attend, participate and prepare reports for all of the commissioning stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Job responsibilitiesPlease see job description for further details, or make contact with the service to have a discussion Person SpecificationQualificationsUK recognized doctoral level training in Clinical or BPS Statement of Equivalence or equivalent additional specialist knowledge in clinical psychology or forensic psychology Experience working at a consultant psychologist level in the NHS Experience as a clinical lead or clinical services manager in the NHS Eligible for registration as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society Pre-qualification training with adolescents and adolescent offenders Training in forensic intervention and assessment Training in leadership or management. Specialist training in psychoanalytical and/or psychodynamic approaches to forensic formulation and risk BPC qualification as a psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapist Degree in business management and leadership ExperienceExperience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. This must include maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Extensive experience in inpatient, forensic and criminal justice settings Knowledge of youth justice law and practice and criminal law for young people Demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist. Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork using the Care Programme Approach. Working knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the needs of young people Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment independently and within a multi-disciplinary team Experience of clinical supervision of assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists Experience of working with children, young people and families and knowledge of a range of psychological tools and interventions relevant to this client group. Experience of working within a psychodynamic/attachment framework Significant experience in line management and/or team leaderships roles Experiencing in being responsible for a budget and managing an MDT Experience with administering cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessment, diagnosis and intervention for youth mental health Specific additional experience in assessment and therapeutic work with adults, young people and families across the age range with a full range of presenting problems, including violence and sexually harmful behaviours, and across settings including community, outpatient and clinic settings. Working knowledge of professional systems involved in working with adolescents both in health and criminal justice settings.
