Role Description We are looking for a Senior Ecologist to lead and grow our Ecology and Sustainability team, based at our head office in Ashington. The Senior Ecologist will be responsible for the following areas: Lead, develop and promote the Groups Ecology Service and in particular the newly formed Habitat Bank business Undertake or oversee Environmental and Ecological Assessments Provide advice concerning the ecological implications of proposed developments and planning applications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policy and to further nature conservation across the Group. Provide advice concerning the conservation and enhancement of ecological resources to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policy and to further nature conservation and sustainability. Provide advice on options to deliver the most appropriate outcome at any site to balance the maximization of beneficial ecological and financial outcomes Approve or devise briefs for assessments, studies and mitigation works necessitated by planning conditions Approve or devise specifications for ecological works to be carried out by internal or external contractors Support the delivery of the Groups Sustainability targets conducting field work, performing environmental impact assessments, and reporting on wildlife and botany observations. Additional responsibilities include liaising with stakeholders, supervising projects, and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards. Qualifications Experience in Field Work, especially related to Wildlife and Botany Skills in Report Writing and Environmental Impact Assessment Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Relevant professional qualifications or certifications Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field We care about our colleagues and their wellbeing and have been nationally recognised for this.
