Our school, New Horizon Academy, supports 11–16-year-olds with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.We’re committed to creating nurturing environments where every child thrives — emotionally, socially and academically.Purpose of the Role As a Residential Care Practitioner, you’ll provide high-quality, child-centred care to children and young people with learning disabilities, behavioural challenges, and emotional needs. You’ll work collaboratively with a close-knit team to promote wellbeing, personal development and independence in line with individual care plans.Key Responsibilities• Deliver compassionate care in a safe, inclusive home setting • Support young people’s education, social activities, life skills and holidays • Provide personal care, including hygiene, mobility, sexual health and medical support • Assist with communication, using Makaton, sign language or other preferred methods • Promote positive behaviour using Team Teach methods • Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and safeguarding standards • Help young people build independent living skills and manage finances • Cook nutritious meals and uphold food hygiene standards • Attend meetings, supervision and contribute to ongoing service improvement • Build relationships with families, professionals and the wider community • Participate in lone working when required and follow safeguarding protocols • Drive company vehicles (if applicable) and ensure their upkeepExperience and QualificationsWe’re looking for individuals with:• Experience supporting children with learning disabilities, SEMH needs or challenging behaviours • Background in residential or social care settings • Strong communication skills with children, families and professionals • NVQ Level 3 or QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or willingness to undertake) • Willingness to complete relevant apprenticeships and functional skills training • Commitment to all mandatory training and professional development • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, and inclusion • ICT skills and ability to use email, internet and basic softwarePersonal QualitiesWe value warmth, empathy and resilience.
