The Phlebotomy Department at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to join our valued team of Phlebotomists. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their care journey, taking blood samples within hospitals, GP surgeries, and community clinics. About the Role 25 hours per week Working flexibly across multiple sites including Ashford Hospital, St Peter's Hospital, Woking Community Hospital, and clinics in Hampton, Twickenham, Hanworth, and any future service locations. Shifts will include early starts from 07:00, with the latest finishing at 20:00, covering 4 out of 7 days. Travel between sites is essential for this role. Main duties of the jobTake part in required training and follow protocol in line with best practice. Take blood following protocol, providing care, empathy and minimal distress to the patient. Affective interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work in a pressurised environment, in a professional manner. Able to handle sensitive and confidential information. Patients may be on wards, in outpatients, community clinics from children to adults inclusive of patients receiving end of life care. Show empathy and an understanding for patients and work to meet the individual needs of the patients in OPD, ward areas recognizing challenges such as dementia, children, anxiety, physical and mental disabilities. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients calmly and politely even under stressful circumstances, deal with patients while maintaining confidentiality. Carry out safe methods of disposal of sharps, contaminated waste, general waste and confidential documents. Ensure samples sent to the laboratory are suitable for analytical/therapeutic or diagnostic testing by meeting all the pre and post analytical criteria.
