Job Description

We are delighted to recruit Student Nursing Associates to learn at the new Northumbria Health and Care Academy at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust. The programme will be run as part of a unique partnership with the University of Sunderland. You will work and train within the Trust, completing a variety of placements throughout the Trust, and learning at the Academy, taking advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities for learning and simulated practice.Role and Programme Details The Student Nursing Associate role works with existing nursing care support workers and Registered Nurses, providing the workforce needed for the future care of our patients. During the 2-year apprenticeship, the Student Nursing Associate will be employed at Band 3 and, upon successful completion, will be eligible to move into a Band 4 Registered Nursing Associate post. The training leads to a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).This is a formal academic apprenticeship with fixed dates, including annual leave. The interview process involves two stages: an individual interview and group exercise on Saturday 13th September 2025, and a skills scan on Friday 19th September 2025. Both must be attended, and offers will only be made after all checks are completed.Development and Training The role is developmental, with progression into a Nursing Associate post contingent on successful completion of the training programme, which includes attaining a Level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent. The programme combines academic and work-based learning, providing experience across various health and care settings to develop a broad understanding of the sector.Upon completing the programme, the Student Nursing Associate will have the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours to work as a Nursing Associate, adhering to a nationally recognized code of conduct.Trust Overview We manage three major hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, along with smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick-on-Tweed. Our facilities include the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also provide community-based care, supporting people to live independently and avoid hospital admissions where appropriate.
