Please note this is an independent contractor role and as such there will be no provision of salary or employee status. Are you looking for a new challenge? We are seeking suitable individuals as Panel Members (known as Associate Hospital Managers - AHMs) to work independently of our Trust and clinical teams. These AHMs assess and treat people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA). If you’re an organized, articulate person with broad life experiences, capable of working collaboratively within specified procedures, and passionate about delivering high-quality mental health services, this rewarding role may be worth considering. The MHA 1983 sets out procedures under which a detained patient may request a review of their detention, heard by a panel of three or more AHMs. Evidence is gathered from doctors, nurses, and social workers, both in written and oral form. The Trust presents its case for detention, and the patient may have legal support. Following review, section 23 of the MHA allows AHMs to discharge a patient. Similar procedures are used for reviewing detentions, renewals, and extensions. Main duties of the job Understand the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) and the MHA Code of Practice, especially regarding the role of managers (MHA Sections 2, 3, 37, 20, 23). An electronic link to the Code will be provided upon appointment. Participate in panels with other AHMs to conduct hearings (online and in person). Review reports on patients’ mental state, social circumstances, and nursing care, including care plans and aftercare arrangements. Conduct interviews and question patients, professionals, and family members at hearings. Assist patients in explaining their reasons for seeking discharge, in a sympathetic and open manner. Make decisions on whether to discharge or continue detention, requiring a unanimous vote of three AHMs. Confirm decisions to continue detention or discharge the patient. Attend relevant meetings and training sessions related to AHM responsibilities.#J-18808-Ljbffr
