You will use a range of therapeutic techniques to manage patients with challenging and unpredictable needs, including during aggressive incidents. You should be able to lead and manage cardiac arrest situations and adhere to Trust policies and procedures. Maintaining accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality and safe storage, is essential. You may undertake surveys or audits and participate in research relevant to the workplace. You will assist in service development plans and practice development projects, working within NMC protocols and professional guidelines. You will coordinate shifts effectively, organize your own and junior staff's time, and provide support to ensure smooth ward operations. Providing practical training to staff and supervising junior staff are also part of your role. You will manage supplies within budget, handle patient valuables according to procedure, and act upon identified risks in the care environment promptly. Effective communication of complex and sensitive information, involving patients and their families, is vital. You will support relatives, carers, and colleagues, ensuring patients are involved in care planning. You will attend meetings, represent nursing interests, and ensure high standards of patient care as per the care plan. Active de-escalation and diffusion techniques will be used to minimize physical aggression, and if restraint is necessary, it will be carried out using recognized PMVA techniques and policies. Writing patient reports, responding to emergencies, and finding creative solutions to problems are also expected. You will care for patients with complex needs who may communicate in challenging ways and deliver unwelcome news sensitively. Frequent stressful events are part of the workplace, and managing these appropriately with support networks is essential.
