Role: Solicitor/Senior Solicitor Department: Legal Services Location: Carbrook, Sheffield Salary: Solicitor £53,688 - £57,258 / Senior Solicitor £59,703 - £65,573 Solicitor/Senior Solicitor – Senior role may be offered to the right candidate with sufficient relevant PQE Hours: 37 Contract Type: Permanent The Legal Services Department provides legal advice and representation to Humberside Police & South Yorkshire Police. This exciting role will be in our operational policing team, responsible for: Providing legal advice to the Chief Constable, police officers, and staff on operational policing matters and protective orders, including attending meetings such as GOLD groups. Managing a varied caseload, mainly civil preventative orders (e.g., Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Offence Act Orders, Forced Marriage Protection Orders, etc.) Advocating in Magistrates Court, County Court, Family Court, Licensing Committees, and potentially Crown Court. Providing advice and representation in police disclosure cases within Family law contexts. Keeping up-to-date with legislation and case law to advise on their impact on the force. Training officers and staff on operational legal matters as needed. Building positive relationships with internal teams, external agencies, and law firms to ensure timely legal advice. Skills and experience: Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate. Expertise in public protection, criminal, or civil law, with strong advocacy skills. Knowledge of ECHR, Magistrates Court Practice, and rights of audience (minimum solicitors rights). Significant post-qualification experience in relevant legal areas. Ability to manage a diverse caseload and provide clear, legally sound advice under pressure. Excellent communication skills for dealing with officers, staff, and external partners.
