OverviewEngineer / Senior / Principal Engineer (Bridges) at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Role based in Glasgow or Edinburgh with hybrid working; some travel may be required for site visits, inspections or meetings. What’s involved?We are looking for Senior and Principal engineers to join our Bridges Team in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Bridge design, both in the UK and overseas; Bridge management; Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessments; General civil and structural engineering support to other teams; Preparation of documents, reports and health and safety risk assessments, scheme designs and drawings, scheme feasibility studies and outline cost estimates; Checking drawings and supervision of CAD technicians. Your teamThe Bridges team works on highway and rail bridge engineering for local authorities, Contractors, private developers and public-sector clients. You will contribute to quality and timeliness of delivery and mentor more-junior team members. This is a hybrid role based in the office/home; some travel may be required occasionally for site visits, inspections, or meetings. QualificationsWe’d love to hear from you if you are a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer. Typical experience includes the following: Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment from construction sites and design office; Project management experience on bridge projects; Design, maintenance and supervision of structures with a track record of innovation in bridges and civil structures infrastructure (new build, maintenance, assessment and strengthening); Working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) related to structural schemes; Understanding and experience with Eurocodes and their application to bridge design; Experience in design or assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges; Experience with grillage, space frame and finite element analysis software such as LUSAS, Superstress and SAM; Good communication, client handling and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to adapt to new challenges and to contribute to the development of the bridges team.
