Required to fill this new post based atLeeds General infirmary and might be covering district general hospitals in theWest Yorkshire acute trust network (WYAAT). You will work with the existingteam to deliver general neurology and Epilepsy service. The present service is well establishedwith 2 Consultants presently in post. Post holder is expected to work alongwith 18 neurology consultants and 3 specialist nurses. We are seeking acandidate with skills in diagnosing and managing various general neurologyconditions and work along current epilepsy team. Clinics are delivered at the LGI, Seacroftand Wharfedale sites as well as some remote clinics in the WYATT region. In addition, the successful candidatewill be part of the neurology on call at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals LGI site. INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD: Friday 14November 2025 Main duties of the jobThesuccessful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister. Applicants should haveestablished skills in Neurology andEpilepsyand its relatedspecialties including. A strongcommitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interestis desirable. Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. Financiallysustainable Job responsibilitiesIn relation to this post,this is a substantive post for a consultant neurologist with a special interestin epilepsy. Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the epilepsy team. The post will be basedat Leeds General Infirmary. Theconsultant will join the epilepsy team.The epilepsy service manages a case load of around 10,000 patients for apopulation of 1.4 million, including West Yorkshire and parts of NorthYorkshire. There are 2 consultantneurologists specialising in epilepsy and 3 hospital based epilepsy specialistnurses. The Leeds epilepsy teamprovides a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service for people with epilepsy inLeeds and is a tertiary centre for the epilepsy surgery programme. Outpatient epilepsy clinics (1st fit, adolescent,obstetric, epilepsy surgery low grade glioma and research trial clinics) aredelivered at 2 hospitals in Leeds. The post-holder willsupport both inpatient and outpatient general neurology and epilepsy servicesat Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.There will be opportunities to contribute to research and newdevelopments within the Neurology service.The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to thecurrent clinical research programmes going on in the department Forcandidates who are dually accredited in GIM and have the relevant clinicalexperience, there is an expectation that within the job plan are 1.19PA of DCCto General Internal Medicine. This will be delivering inpatient care to thegeneral medical inpatients. The newdepartment of GIM, within the Speciality and Integrated Medicine ClinicalService Unit, is staffed by dual accredited physicians from Group 1specialities, who will either work a consultant of the week model of care ona one in eight rota, providing a daily consultant ward round on the GIM wardor, for LGI specialities, providing inreach within the LGI footprint,supporting those patients in specialty areas with GIM needs. This is a brandnew service, and will provide exciting opportunities for successful candidatesto be involved in service development and quality improvement, as well as gainleadership and management experience. TheGIMPAs in colleagues job plans will be reviewed after two years in post,with the likelihood (subject to individual wishes, and confirmation with yourline manager) of this activity being passed on as new Group 1 specialityconsultants are appointed to the organisation allowing incumbents to returnthat time to their department and allow them to develop further their parentspeciality interest. An alternative optionwould be for the successful candidate to utilise the 1.19PA for the deliveryacute internal medicine. Depending on the needs of the services involved thiscould be either as part of the acute medicine on call rota, or a commitment tothe inpatient areas or SDEC facility. The timetable for this would be subjectto negotiation, either taking a similar form to the GIM timetable, working 1week in 8 or a fixed weekly commitment. Person SpecificationTraining, Research, Teaching & AuditShould have completed a recognised training programme in Neurology and be able to demonstrate experience with epilepsy patients. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Experience of participation in regular clinical audit. Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops. QualificationsMRCP or equivalent qualification/demonstration of equivalent experience. Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED. Eligibility to work in the UK. Is up to date and fit to practise safely. ExperienceMust be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Neurology and an interest in epilepsy. Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
