Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiasticindividual to join the renowned Rheumatology Department at LTHT as a SpecialtyDoctor. Candidates with experience of complex conditions and advanced therapiesare particularly encouraged to apply. The post will be mainly outpatient basedwith general and specialist clinics. A commitment to participate in qualityimprovement and education is essential. There are also significantopportunities to participate in research. Main duties of the jobThepost is for 6 sessions per week. It is predominantly outpatient based, atChapel Allerton Hospital. The postholder will work with a team of consultantsand registrars. The clinics will be a mix of general and subspecialtyrheumatology. At certain times, with advance notice, a clinic session may bealtered so that the postholder can cover inpatient or day case related workif needed. It is envisaged that the postholder will have a specificindividual clinic list in each clinic, under consultant supervision. Thepostholder is expected to have a role in training and education. This wouldbe for medical students as clinic based teaching and to deliver educationalsessions for resident doctors. The postholder would also present clinicalcases and teaching presentations at the weekly academic meeting as per apre-planned schedule. The rheumatology department is involved with a varietyof local, regional and national postgraduate teaching courses. Thereis a weekly programme of departmental clinical, educational, governance andresearch meetings with internal and external presentation. The postholder isexpected to participate in audit and projects related to service delivery andimprovement. Most of the departments workis outpatient based but there are also specific inpatient beds. The postholder will also participate in the standard annualappraisal process, leading to revalidation. Person SpecificationQualificationsMBBS or equivalent medical qualification Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date Eligibility to work in the UK. Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs. All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. OR Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5) OR Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
