At Marie Curie, we invite a highly driven and enthusiastic individual to join our new service at the Royal Free Hospital. OverviewMarie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We provide community nursing and hospice care across the country, deliver information and support on dying, death and bereavement, and lead research to improve the end-of-life experience. This role focuses on identifying patients in the Emergency Department likely in their last year of life, delivering specialist palliative care, and facilitating prompt discharge to the patient’s preferred place of care. Main duties of the jobIn this role, you will: Lead on clinical assessments and care planning Provide advanced symptom control and communication support Coordinate with community and hospital palliative care services to facilitate rapid discharge home/preferred place of care Supervise Senior Healthcare Assistants, mentor emergency department staff, and support team learning Job responsibilitiesYou will also manage nursing services for individuals with terminal illnesses, supporting their loved ones, and collaborating with health professionals. As a vital member of our multidisciplinary team, you will offer expert advice and support, manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, while ensuring the highest standards of care. This role exemplifies person-centred leadership, clinical excellence, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration, all of which are crucial for Marie Curie to achieve its strategic goals. You will be expected to adhere to relevant legal, ethical, capability, and clinical frameworks, as well as Marie Curie’s policies and procedures, taking accountability for your actions within the scope of your role. Workdays:Starts Monday to Friday; includes weekends as the service grows Location:Royal Free Hospital, London What we’re looking for: Experience working in Specialist Palliative Care. Proven experience in providing care to patients with complex needs, ensuring comfort and quality of life during terminal illness. Prior experience managing complex discharges within an emergency department is preferred but not required. Registered Nurse on NMC register (Adult). Ability to connect with patients and their families on an emotional level, providing support and understanding during difficult times.
