Interim Monitoring Officer – URGENT START – Local Authority – Up to £1,000 per day umbrella – Remote Working – Initial 3 months+Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently working with a well-established Local Authority to recruit an Interim Monitoring Officer, with an URGENT START. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Governance professional to take on statutory responsibilities and lead the legal function within a supportive environment.The RolePosition: Interim Monitoring OfficerRate: Up to £1,000 per day umbrellaDuration: Initial 3 months with potential for extensionWorking Arrangement: Remote working, occasional office presence preferred but not essential (meetings online)Hours: Full-time and part time candidates will be consideredKey ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the legal function of the AuthorityFulfil statutory Monitoring Officer duties under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989Ensure the Council, officers, and elected Members act lawfully and uphold high standards of conductAdvise on governance, constitutional matters, and decision-making processesOversee the Members’ Code of Conduct and ethical standardsSupport committees and provide governance and standards advice to MembersAct as a key point of contact for probity, compliance, and governance mattersLiaise with external bodies and regulators as requiredAbout YouQualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive with a current Practising CertificateProven experience fulfilling Monitoring Officer duties within Local GovernmentStrong knowledge of statutory governance, probity, and ethical frameworksExperienced in advising elected Members and senior officers on complex governance mattersConfident in managing confidential and high-profile issuesTo discuss the role in more detail, please contact Louise Francis or Sam Cox on 07441 916438 or via email at localgovlegal@Job Reference: J90997Venn Group is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all candidates.
