Job Description

Trainee Retrofit Assessor Ridgewater Energy operate as an energy advice centre and project management organisation, work with BCP and Dorset Councils and operate several key programs. These programs help Dorset residents save energy, money and to keep warm at home. This support is delivered in a number of ways, including through telephone and home energy advice visits, at events, as well as through the assessment and management of insulation, heating, renewables and ventilation works, through several retrofit/energy efficiency programs. Due to the growth of the company, we are now looking to employ an enthusiastic, competent trainee, who has an interest in becoming a Domestic energy Assessor and then Retrofit Assessor and carrying out assessments in homes across Dorset, that help inform which measures householders are able to safely install into their homes. We are happy to provide full training support, through firstly a diploma in domestic energy Assessment and then through the provision of several other key training courses for topics including fuel poverty, paying for fuel, condensation and damp and thermal imaging. This will be complimented by shadowing several key members of the team, honing your DEA skills and knowledge, before you would then embark on your Retrofit Assessor qualification, ensuring you are more than just classroom or webinar trained. A Trainee Retrofit Assessor inspects properties to identify energy efficiency improvements, collects data on building condition and occupancy, and compiles this information into detailed reports for a Retrofit Coordinator, who then develops a retrofit plan. Key responsibilities Include conducting non-intrusive surveys to assess insulation, heating, and ventilation systems, recommending relevant energy efficiency measures, ensuring compliance with PAS 2035, and communicating with property owners and the project team. Collaboration: Work with Retrofit Coordinators, homeowners, and other stakeholders to integrate the findings into a holistic retrofit plan and be able to communicate these findings effectively. Skills and Knowledge Technical Understanding: You will be trained on building construction elements and characteristics, energy efficiency measures, and heating/ventilation systems. As well as an understanding of PAS 2035 guidelines and requirements for energy efficiency schemes (e.g., Warm Homes Local Grant, ECO4). Person specification: You should be educated to at least GCSE, NVQ or BTEC level. Whilst, we do not require applicants to have industry experience, or qualifications for this role, you should have an interest in energy efficiency, buildings, construction, surveying, environment, sustainability or similar. You should have the ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex information to a diverse range of clients when required to. Be able to maintain accurate and detailed records of all property assessments, evidence and client interactions. Be able to identify issues and building defects such as dampness, or mould that may affect retrofitting and contribute to solutions. Training is provided. It is essential that you are a team player, are flexible, have a positive outlook and a sense of humour! Training and Development: You will undergo full training, to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to perform retrofit assessments and other types of home visit. Support System : You will receive support from our friendly team of experienced professionals and work closely with a Retrofit Coordinator who oversees the project. You will be required to travel around the county of Dorset and initially to provide your own vehicle for which mileage will be paid (N.B. we do not pay mileage from home to office travel, only home or office (whichever is nearer) to location of appointments/assessments). On successful completion of both your probation period and all training courses, depending on circumstances, a company car may be provided. Starting salary 24k-25k dependant on experience.
