An immediate start is available.Responsibilities of the Role:Provide specialist technical advice on track design, construction, and maintenance for a light rail system.Work closely with contractors, consultants, and project teams to drive technical assurance and compliance with rail standards.Oversee site inspections, resolve technical issues, and ensure delivery quality.Contribute to project progress by supporting engineering queries and ensuring best practice across the programme.To be successful in the role you will have:Proven experience as a Track Engineer or Technical Specialist, ideally within light rail or major rail infrastructure.Strong knowledge of track design, construction methods, and relevant safety standards.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.A proactive approach to problem-solving in a delivery-focused environment.Next StepsThis assignment is a 6-month contract (with likely extension) and offering £400-£600 per day depending on experience. The role is hybrid, with a requirement to be on-site 2-3 days per week.Interviews will be taking place in the next couple of weeks.Desired Skills and ExperienceTrack Design & ConstructionExpertise in track alignment (horizontal/vertical geometry), turnout & crossing design, and ballast vs. slab track systems.Standards & RegulationsThorough knowledge of UK railway standards (Network Rail standards, BS/EN, RSSB guidance).Maintenance & InspectionProficiency in track condition monitoring, defect diagnosis, and preventative maintenance strategies.Materials & ComponentsUnderstanding of rail metallurgy, sleepers (concrete, timber, steel), ballast behaviour, and fastenings.Surveying & MeasurementSkilled in using track geometry measuring systems, total stations, and modern digital surveying (e.g., LiDAR).Civil & Systems IntegrationAwareness of how P-Way interacts with signalling, OLE (overhead line equipment), civils (bridges, drainage), and geotechnics.Project DeliveryExperience in planning and delivering major possessions, renewals, and new line construction.
