Job Description

The Deputy Managers role is To ensure residents live in a manner similar to their usual home life. To maintain the resident independence, choice, and privacy at all times. To oversee and assist in all aspects of nursing care and activities for the residents, where necessary making decisions related to the care provided to residents. To promote and maintain excellent communications with all internal and external parties. To act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct To assess the individual needs of residents and ensure that they receive the highest standards of holistic care and attention appropriate to their needs. To participate fully in the overall care of residents. To ensure that the day to day running of the care aspects of the care home is in accordance with management policies, quality systems and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and the CSA (Care Standards Act 2000), in particular. To give guidance and training to the care staff and to provide clinical support and direction as required. To be involved with residents activities both in and out of the care home and encourage leisure pursuits accordingly. To act for the Home Manager when required and provide administrative cover out of hours, taking charge of the care home in rotation with other staff.To be responsible for the smooth running of the care home in all areas. To ensure care plans are completed for all residents as soon as possible after admission whenever possible, consulting with the resident and/or relative.Ensure care plans are evaluated and reviewed regularly. To maintain and promote relationships with GPs and Primary Care Trust in the local community. Keep strict control of recording, ordering and the return of medication to the pharmacy. To deploy staff efficiently in relation to care duties to be covered by setting up and controlling the duty rota. To establish good personal relationships with residents and their families. To undertake on-call requirements as agreed with the Home Manager. To assist as necessary in the recruitment of staff in consultation with the Home Manager and in accordance with company policies, arrange orientation and induction programme for all new staff. To assist in the Assessment of potential residents to maintain high occupancy. Attend meetings with and on behalf of the manager as requested. Take every opportunity to promote the care home. Ensure any vacant rooms are ready for viewing at all times. Show prospective clients or relatives around the care home as and when required. Maintain good contact with local professional bodies and other relevant persons. To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to Health & Safety and Welfare policies and procedures. Duty to whistleblow if witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the care home. Duty to notify Home Manager if NMC commences an investigation into practice. Qualifications, training and experience First level registration. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to work on own initiative unsupervised. Work to deadlines. Time management.
