OverviewPrep School Lab Technician role at TES FE News. 20 hours per week for 36 weeks per year (34 weeks term time, plus inset days, plus 2 weeks in the holidays; holidays can be flexible). Salary: 10,483. The staff commit to supporting these aims within their roles and the schools strategic aims.A warm, caring character balancing a professional and learning-focused attitude, with a problem-solving approach and a can-do attitude, will help get the best out of pupils.The Duties And ResponsibilitiesProviding support for the science department, including ensuring availability of suitable materials and equipment, obtaining costs for materials, compiling and placing orders.Preparing, dismantling and cleaning materials and equipment for practical lessons as specified by teaching staff and delivering equipment to teaching rooms.Overseeing Health & Safety, including risk assessments for practical work.Carrying out visual checks of all equipment in all rooms before use by pupils.Providing a backup service for lessons so that extras, deficiencies, faults or spare equipment are available for lesson continuity.Keeping sinks and worktops clean; stock rooms and cupboards tidy and in good order.Assisting with administrative tasks and attending staff meetings as directed.Cover supervision in times of need, primarily to support teachers covering absent colleagues for lessons and duties.The PersonQualifications And TrainingWilling to undertake necessary training when required.ExperienceSolid work history.Skills And AttributesExcellent communication skillsArticulate, bright and able to learn quicklyProactive, enthusiastic and hardworkingWelcoming and approachable team playerSensitive and effective communication skillsSmart and professional in appearanceDiscreet and able to maintain confidentialityAbility to prioritise and meet deadlinesConfidence to deal calmly with difficult issuesConfidence to challenge and improve systemsThis job description will be reviewed annually and may be amended.
