Manufacturing Engineer Location: Filton Type: 12-Month contract with potential extension Hours: 35 per week (Flexi, Friday half-day) Shift Pattern: 4.5-day week Rate: 29.81 per hour (PAYE) About the Role Morson is currently recruiting a highly organised and technically proficient Manufacturing Engineer on behlaf of GKN Aerospace, specialising in Cutting Tool Lifecycle Management. This is a key role supporting operational and development programmes, focused on delivering robust, zero-defect manufacturing processes and optimising the performance, cost efficiency, and reliability of cutting tools across machining operations. You'll work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, suppliers, and technical specialists to drive tooling performance, process optimisation, and continuous improvement. What You'll Be Doing Manufacturing Engineering & Technical Support Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace HSE standards. Deliver technical solutions to complex manufacturing challenges across machining environments. Support machining process development, integration, troubleshooting, and non-conformance resolution. Apply structured problem-solving tools (e.g., RCA, CAPA) and lead Lean initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and tool life. Cutting Tool Lifecycle Management Own the full lifecycle of cutter assemblies from design through to performance optimisation. Define and validate cutting parameters for new and existing tooling. Create and maintain tool drawings using Catia V5 and simulation models in Vericut . Maintain Zoller tool pre-setting programs and ensure accurate tool setup. Oversee cutter procurement, tool build, and deployment to meet production plans. Monitor tool wear, performance and implement actions to enhance reliability and tool life. Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimisation Analyse tooling data to identify trends, drive improvements, and reduce costs. Introduce alternative tooling solutions to enhance machining capability and reduce waste. Investigate tooling-related quality issues, including breakages and measurement discrepancies. Lead corrective actions for on-machine measurement system issues. Tooling Inventory & Supplier Management Partner with suppliers (e.g., Seco) to maintain stock levels and availability. Manage Zoller programme integrity, backups, and tool database optimisation. Reduce obsolete or low-usage tools to support Lean manufacturing principles. What We're Looking For Essential Degree-qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical). Minimum 3 years' experience in Manufacturing Engineering. Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling systems and manufacturing process control. Experience applying problem-solving methodologies and driving process improvements. Ability to influence, coach, and build strong working relationships across teams and suppliers. Confident representing engineering functions with customers or suppliers. Working knowledge of ISO9000, AS9100 or D1-9000. Desirable Skills & Experience Proficiency in Catia V5 and Vericut . Experience with Zoller tool pre-setting and programming. CAD/CAM experience Familiarity with AS9145 (APQP) and Lean/Zero-Defect methodologies. Recognised problem-solving qualification (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt). NC programming capability.
