Summary of Duties: The role is based at the Transport Depot, Liverpool and reports directly to the Transport Maintenance Manager. The role involves the day to day running of the transport Fabrication facility, legal compliance, staff management and achievement of department KPIs. The post holder will work collaboratively with senior management to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and relevant targets are met; this will involve working beyond normal contracted hours and on call as required to fulfil the needs of the role. Key Responsibilities: Perform MIG, Tig & Stick welding duties and plasma cutting Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions To be able to weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions To monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of parts Work includes setup, laying out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts and/or rework finished products Work with fitters or fitters/welders to assist in the fabrication or welding of multi-component parts Operate hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and other hand tools related to the jobs needs Inspect and correct welds as necessary to meet product specifications Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, engineering drawings, and/or work orders Be able to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications and also welding symbols Able to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment To ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project areas on a daily basis Complete assigned work within a given time frame and according to specifications To maintain confidentiality of the company''s information and supplier''s information as requested To be able to follow company Health and Safety procedures Inspect and ensure that all work equipment is maintained and fully functional To comply with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and the post holders terms and particulars of employment Responsibility for compliance with Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety standards in force at any given time; ensuring all workers always follow safe working practices Ensuring all equipment and materials are kept in good repair, including calibration, Loler and Puwer inspections. Ensure materials and supplies are ordered in a timely manner and the throughput of work is well planned and documented Ensure that paperwork and systems are updated to meet maintenance compliance requirements Undertaking review of staffing levels and liaise with the Group transport maintenance manager to initiate the recruitment and performance management process To carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time Key Competencies: Excellent people skills and the ability to manage and develop others Professional in all aspects of work with the ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, customers and other business contacts Excellent time management and organisational skills The ability to work under pressure using own initiative; managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines Strong organisational skills The ability to work flexibly and make decisions quickly Clear effective communicator; in person, in writing and on the telephone The ability to harness modern technology, implement industry best practices Essential skills: Minimum NVQ Level 3 Qualification Valid coded welding certificate Extensive experience of supervising a busy fabrication shop and providing support across areas of the business using your engineering experience Proven track record of working on the front line in a similar business and thoroughly understands the dynamics of an in-house workshop The ability to deliver verbal and written reports to senior managers Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with good literacy and numeracy IT Literate with the ability to use a range of packages applicable to the role A commitment to up-skill as required to meet the changing needs of the business Full, clean driving license An excellent commercial understanding of vehicle costing and resource management Desirable Skills Excellent decision-making skills, a high level of initiative and able to prioritise and problem solve The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Works well under pressure and is still able to inspire and lead a team of Fabricators and Apprentice in various disciplines The ability to work as part of an integral team Excellent time keeping, flexibility and attendance is required Relative experience in environmental controls applicable to transport/metal recycling and other associated processes55b20050-bc17-4e5d-bfce-3c406318dffc
