R&D Engineer / Researcher – Camera AlgorithmsLocation: Cambridge, United Kingdom Work Type: Full-time, On-site Client: A leading global technology company is hiring to expand their imaging research team in Cambridge.About the RoleOur client is hiring an experienced R&D Engineer / Researcher in Camera Algorithms to join their imaging research organisation in Cambridge.The team is focused on next-generation camera algorithm development, image quality optimisation, and AI-driven approaches to computational imaging, targeting future consumer products.You will work in a research-driven environment with strong ownership and technical freedom, developing algorithms from concept through implementation, validation, and optimisation.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch, design and implement advanced camera and imaging algorithmsDevelop solutions targeting improvements in image quality, low-light, HDR, tone mapping, denoising, fusion, texture, compression, and renderingBuild and test end-to-end imaging pipelines, from capture to displayImplement prototype systems in Python, C or C++Conduct objective and subjective IQ evaluation, metric design, and benchmarkingOptimise algorithms for performance, memory and powerPrepare technical reports, experiment documentation, and evaluation resultsCollaborate with research, software, hardware and product teams to define technical directionWhat We’re Looking ForRequired:MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Imaging or related fieldIndustrial experience in camera algorithms, computational photography, computer vision or image processingStrong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++Experience with image quality metrics, evaluation methods and tuningUnderstanding of end-to-end imaging systems and camera pipelinesAbility to build and validate algorithms in a practical environmentStrong analytical skills, curiosity and problem-solving mindsetDesired:Background in AI-based image processing or deep learningExperience with HDR, low-light, fusion, super-resolution or compressionKnowledge of GPU, parallel computing or embedded optimisationPublications in CVPR / ICCV / ECCV / SIGGRAPH / IS&T or relevant fieldsPassion for photography, computer vision or imaging researchLocation & Work EnvironmentOn-site in Cambridge, UKModern research facility with high-end equipment and resourcesRelocation assistance may be considered for strong candidatesQuick Summary for CandidatesThis role is ideal for someone who:Has hands-on experience developing imaging algorithmsWants to work on next-gen computational photographyEnjoys building algorithms from scratch and validating themWants to work in a highly technical, research-driven environmentThe client is hiring across multiple experience levels – from strong individual contributors to senior/principal researchers capable of leading initiatives.
