Project descriptionOne of the biggest UK rail network companies operating with rail infrastructure and asset management has a need to develop and support enterprise-level information systems.We are seeking an experienced L2/L3 NSX Architect to design, implement, and support advanced VMware NSX network virtualization solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of our virtualized network infrastructure. This position requires both deep technical knowledge and strong leadership in architectural design, implementation best practices, and operational excellence.ResponsibilitiesLead the design and architecture of VMware NSX environments, ensuring alignment with business and technical requirements.Provide advanced L2/L3 operational support, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident resolution.Deploy, configure, and maintain NSX-T Data Center components and integrations with VMware vSphere and related platforms.Implement and manage micro-segmentation, distributed firewalls, and routing policies to enhance network security.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure modernization and network automation initiatives.Maintain detailed design documentation, network diagrams, and operational procedures.Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to engineering and operations teams.Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and continuous improvement of network services.SkillsMust haveMinimum 5 years of experience in enterprise networking and virtual network environments.At least 3 years of hands-on experience with VMware NSXStrong understanding of L2/L3 networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF), VPNs, VLANs, and network security principles.Experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter management.Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex, multi-tiered environments.Experience with scripting or automation tools such as PowerCLI, Python, Ansible, or Terraform is an advantage.Nice to haveVMware Certified Advanced ProfessionalNetwork Virtualization (VCAP-NV)VMware Certified Design ExpertNetwork Virtualization (VCDX-NV)Relevant Cisco or cloud networking certifications (CCNP, AWS, or Azure networking) are a plus.
