The Role - Microsoft SQL Server DBA As a Microsoft SQL Server DBA , you will take ownership of critical database systems, ensuring they remain performant, secure, and reliable. You'll work closely with developers, support teams, and business stakeholders to optimise data access and maintain operational excellence. You will: Maintain and optimise on-premise and Azure SQL Server environments as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA Administer backups, high availability configurations, monitoring, and performance tuning Work with developers and business teams to improve database design, stored procedures, and queries Support cloud-based data solutions including Azure SQL Server, Data Lake, and related storage technologies Apply technical judgement to deliver solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and scalability Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence What We're Looking For To succeed as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA , you'll combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills. Key requirements include: Proven experience working as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA or similar role Strong MS SQL Server knowledge, including schema interrogation, query optimisation, and performance tuning Experience with on-premise and cloud database environments , particularly Azure SQL Solid understanding of ITIL processes and structured problem resolution The ability to work collaboratively with developers, DevOps, and business teams Strong communication skills to clearly engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders A minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science or a related discipline Financial Services experience is advantageous but not essential Desirable Experience It would be beneficial if you also have experience with: High Availability via Always-On or Basic Availability Groups Backup/restore (DB/transaction logs) PowerShell scripting (dbatools or SqlServer modules) SQL Server maintenance (Agent Jobs, Monitoring, Configuration) Partitioning, snapshots, and change data capture Understanding of SAN arrays (e.g., Nimble, PURE, or equivalent) Why Join?
