Electrical Design Engineer An established engineering and manufacturing business is looking for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their technical team. This role involves the design, documentation, and validation of electrical systems for machinery, including control cabinets, field wiring, and associated components, across the entire product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Electrical Design & Development: Design electrical control cabinets, panels, and machine wiring. Create and maintain 3D models for electrical cabinets, ensuring proper fit, cable routing, and serviceability. Produce 2D electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and associated documentation (I/O schematics, terminal plans, etc.). Wiring & Cable Design: Specify cables, harnesses, and looms, and generate manufacturing documentation for internal and external suppliers. Design wiring schedules and cable lists for accurate build instructions. Component Selection & Obsolescence Management: Select appropriate electrical components (e.g., breakers, relays, drives, sensors) based on technical, cost, and availability factors. Manage component obsolescence and identify suitable replacements, ensuring continuity in design and functionality. Documentation & Change Control: Maintain and version-control electrical drawings, BOMs, and specifications in line with company standards. Drive rigorous documentation discipline, ensuring changes are captured, reviewed, and approved per company procedures. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with mechanical design, software/controls, production, and sales teams to meet functional, safety, and commercial requirements. Provide electrical inputs to ensure overall design meets specifications and requirements. Production Support & Fault-Finding: Provide hands-on support during the build, test, and debug phases of panels and machinery. Investigate and resolve production and field issues, offering design updates as necessary. Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., machine safety, wiring standards, EMC layout considerations). Support or coordinate electrical testing activities (e.g., panel checks, insulation testing, safety liaising with external test houses). Qualifications & Experience: Essential: HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline. Proven experience in electrical design within machinery, automation, control panels, or special-purpose equipment. Strong foundation in electrical control circuits, industrial power distribution, and component selection. Experience with 2D electrical schematics and 3D cabinet design. Exposure to production environments and support for build, test, and debug activities. Desirable: Experience with cable/harness design for internal/external manufacturing. Knowledge of component obsolescence management and alternative sourcing. Familiarity with EMC, grounding, and noise immunity practices. Exposure to PLC, motion control, and I/O wiring (basic understanding). Experience with international machinery and electrical standards (e.g., EN 60204-1, CE/UKCA). What We Offer: Opportunity to work on innovative, high-quality projects in a collaborative engineering environment. Continuous professional development and growth opportunities. A role that allows you to make a real impact on the design and performance of cutting-edge machinery. TPBN1_UKTJ
