Our mission is to ensure that accredited bodies operate to the highest standards of impartiality, competence, and reliability.The RoleWe are seeking experienced professionals from the oil and gas sector to join our network of Independent Technical Assessors. As a UKAS Assessor, you will focus on evaluating the conformity assessment activities of certification bodies working in upstream petroleum extraction and related support services.Your primary responsibility will be to assess whether certification bodies are correctly applying accreditation standards, particularly ISO 9001 and ISO 17021—within the context of oil and gas operations. This is a role centered on conformity assessment, not regulatory compliance.What You’ll Be Doing:Conduct technical assessments of certification bodies in the oil and gas sector, focusing on their conformity assessment processesEvaluate the competence of auditors and the effectiveness of audit methodologiesReview sampling strategies and technical decision-making for relevance and accuracyEnsure correct and consistent application of ISO 9001 within petroleum extraction and upstream operationsPrepare clear, impartial assessment reports and recommendationsUphold UKAS standards of impartiality and integrity throughout all assessmentsWhat We’re Looking For:Substantial direct industrial experience in oil and gas extraction or support servicesStrong working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems in oil and gas operationsFamiliarity with audit principles (impartiality, audit trails, sampling, reporting)Understanding of petroleum extraction processes, technologies, and regulatory frameworksUnderstanding of processes, technologies, and regulations related to oil and gas extraction (crude petroleum and natural gas) and support activities for these operationsExcellent communication, analytical, and report writing skillsWillingness to travel within the UK and internationally as requiredMembership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Energy Institute, Society of Petroleum Engineers) is desirableTypical Backgrounds:Drilling SuperintendentsOffshore Installation Managers (OIMs)Petroleum EngineersProduction Operations ManagersQA/QC or HSE Managers in oilfield operationsTechnical Advisors or Consultants in upstream servicesContract DetailsThis is a freelance, subcontractor role with competitive day rates paid per assessment, including preparation and reporting time.
