Chartered Structural Engineer Defect Inspections & Technical Reporting Location: London Salary: Competitive (DOE) Job Type: Permanent, Full-time The Opportunity We are working on behalf of a specialist structural engineering consultancy with a strong focus on existing buildings, structural assessments, and defect investigations . Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Chartered Structural Engineer with hands-on surveying and inspection experience to join their team. The Role This is a structural engineering-led position with a strong surveying component . The successful candidate will inspect existing buildings, diagnose structural defects, and produce high-quality technical reports with clear engineering conclusions and remedial recommendations. Key responsibilities include: Carrying out structural inspections and surveys of existing buildings Diagnosing structural defects such as cracking, movement, subsidence, and deterioration Producing technical structural defect reports Undertaking structural design and checking for remedial and strengthening works Liaising with clients, local authorities, building control, and contractors Attending site visits across London and the South East Essential Requirements Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE) Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering Proven surveying / inspection experience on existing buildings Strong experience in structural defect diagnosis and report writing Solid understanding of structural behaviour and load paths Full UK driving licence Desirable Experience Consultancy or local authority background Experience with subsidence, retaining walls, fire damage, or structural movement Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and British Standards Experience across residential and commercial buildings Important This role is not suitable for Building Surveyors without a structural engineering qualification .
