Job Description

Care First Recruitment Ltd are seeking a committed and proactive Environmental Health Officer / Enforcement Officer to join our Environmental Health Team in the Brent area. This is a challenging and rewarding role, focused on protecting public health and improving environmental conditions for our communities. The Role You will investigate and respond to a wide range of environmental health complaints and public health issues, including: Pest infestations Stopped up and defective drains Filthy, verminous and hoarded properties Waste accumulations and fly-tipping Other statutory and non-statutory public health matters You will take a casework-led approach, assessing risks, engaging with residents, landlords and businesses, and applying proportionate and effective interventions to achieve compliance and safeguard health. Key Responsibilities Investigate environmental health complaints and service requests in line with legislation, policies and procedures Carry out inspections, risk assessments and evidence gathering Use a full suite of interventions, including advice, informal action, statutory notices, and enforcement action where necessary Prepare reports, schedules of works, legal documentation and witness statements Work collaboratively with internal teams, partner agencies and external stakeholders Manage a caseload efficiently, prioritising high-risk public health issues Provide professional advice to the public, elected members and colleagues About You You will have: Thorough knowledge of environmental health procedures, practices and relevant legislation Proven experience in tackling environmental health-related issues using a range of interventions Experience of dealing with complex cases such as hoarding, filthy and verminous premises, drainage issues and waste accumulations Strong investigative, decision-making and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal sensitively with vulnerable individuals while remaining firm and professional Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities Essential / Desirable (adapt as required): Degree or diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent) and eligibility for professional membership (e.g. CIEH) Enforcement experience within a local authority or regulatory environment Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel across the area) You will need to pass a background checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) TPBN1_UKTJ
