A fantastic opportunity for a suitably experienced Senior Backend Engineer seeking a role where they can make a real difference. You will help define how AI is safely used in front line healthcare.As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and scaling the core infrastructure that powers our clients platform. Experience with the following will be highly desirable:AWS – Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, S3 and OpenSearchNode.js / TypeScript and PythonDynamoDB and PostgreSQLServerless Architecture and microservices patterns.Infrastructure tools like Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.Security and compliance practices, especially relevant in healthcare.Responsibilities:Design and build robust, scalable cloud-first backend systems.Contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices and DevOps tooling.Build and maintain LLM-powered features such as RAG pipelines for clinical information.Develop and optimise agentic document extraction workflows to process clinical PDFs, policies, and handbooks into structured formats.Collaborate closely with our product and frontend teams to deliver high-impact features.Write clean, well-tested code and guide best practices across the engineering team.Take ownership of system reliability, performance, and security in a healthcare context.Key Skills:5+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments.Strong AWS proficiency - hands-on experience building and deploying systems in the cloud.Familiarity with embedding models, chunking strategies, and semantic search.Experience working in a small team or startup environment.A pragmatic problem-solver who balances speed with sustainability.Passion for writing maintainable, scalable code.Knowledge of security and compliance best practices (e.g. HIPAA/GDPR, NHS DTAC, SOC 2).Bonus: experience in healthcare, medtech, or regulated environments.
