Salary: £29,770 + 25 days Annual Leave + Pension Scheme with an average employer contribution of 28.97%Location: Addlestone, Surrey KT15 3LSJob Reference: 432234The closing date for applications is 12 January 2026.The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.We have a vacancy for a Service Desk OperatorThis exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s IT Team.The IT Service Desk Operator serves as the first point of contact for IT support, delivering prompt and professional assistance to users via digital channels, phone, and in person. Key responsibilities include managing and monitoring the IT Service Desk system, categorising and escalating issues, and ensuring timely resolution.The role involves handling IT queries, maintaining documentation, issuing equipment and accounts, updating the asset register, and supporting procurement processes. Additionally, the operator coordinates IT meetings, facilitates training for new starters, and provides ad-hoc support to the wider IT team.We're looking for you to have the following experience:Familiarity with IT service desk systems, ticketing tools, and basic troubleshooting across hardware, software, and network issues.Strong communication and interpersonal skills for supporting users digitally, in person, and over the phone.Capable of identifying, categorising, and escalating IT issues appropriately.Experience managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating training sessions.Ability to create and maintain user guides, help documents, and IT records using document management systems.Experience in issuing IT equipment and maintaining asset registers.Skilled in handling procurement-related tasks, including invoice tracking and monthly reporting using Government Procurement Cards.Monitoring software expirations, incoming mail, and ensuring timely responses to queries.Operating Service Desk ticketing system, and applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook.How to ApplyIf you're interested in applying for this position, we would love to hear from you!
