With shared office locations in Birmingham, Derby, York, Bristol, Manchester, and Cardiff, we welcome applications from candidates across these regions.Key Projects:As an appointed Design Partner on some of the UKs most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects, including Wales & Borders. We are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in-house engineering team delivers design solutions across all Network Rail stages and disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of rail safety and efficiency.These projects also provide a diverse range of opportunities for personal and professional development, whether you are working on long-term, high-value programmes or smaller, community-focused initiatives. With these frameworks in place, you will have the chance to influence infrastructure projects that shape the regions future.The roleAs a Senior Engineer, you will act as a team leader provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Rail schemes, whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. You will also oversee the production of technically sound deliverables for engineering commissions, such as in the preparation of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.Responsibilities include:To lead a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasksThe preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverablesLiaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning functionWorking on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out-of-hours workingTo manage the actions of a small to medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team, including the people manager role when required by the business.What you will bring to us:Developed experience and expertise within the Civil engineering discipline, probably gained in an engineer role or equivalent within Rail sector.Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering disciplineAn ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound Rail engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirementsExperience in undertaking project-related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) RegulationsSuccessful completion of the initial professional development leading to either Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence and to the level defined by their educationA demonstrable commitment to their plan of action and key dates leading to successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licenceBachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learningWhat we can offer you: At Amey, we recognise that our biggest asset is our people.
