Job overview Are you a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional, or Social Worker with a passion for safeguarding? Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) Safeguarding Team is offering an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team as a Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner for Children and Adults. In this role, you will provide expert safeguarding advice and operational support to the Deputy Head of Safeguarding, working across all aspects of safeguarding for both children and adults. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Safeguarding, Deputy Head of Safeguarding amed Nurse for Children and Adults, and the Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children to contribute to the professional leadership of the health service’s safeguarding responsibilities. This includes ensuring high standards of practice, promoting partnership working, and supporting the delivery of statutory safeguarding duties across the Trust. This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, providing flexibility to work both remotely and from the office. Interviews for this position will be held across the 11th and 12th of February. Main duties of the job As a Safeguarding Specialist Practitioner, you will hold a pivotal position in promoting safe and inclusive care across the Trust. This role involves providing expert advice and intervention in complex safeguarding cases concerning both adults and children, including matters related to domestic abuse, sexual safety, and high-risk scenarios. You will actively participate in statutory safeguarding processes, ensuring compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, and national standards. Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners on areas such as SEND and MAPPA, you will contribute to robust risk management and safeguarding planning. In addition, you will deliver safeguarding training and supervision, support policy development, and champion best practice across the organisation. Your work will directly safeguard service users and their families, mitigate risks of harm, and strengthen the Trust’s safeguarding culture. By ensuring timely, expert intervention and promoting inclusive practice, you will help maintain patient safety, uphold legal and regulatory obligations, and build staff confidence in managing safeguarding concerns. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria - Registered practitioner (NMC registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional or Social Worker) with extensive experience within a related professional field (NHS or other statutory partners of the Local Safeguarding Board). Post registration training in safeguarding. Evidence of ongoing professional development at degree level. Skills Essential criteria - The individual should be able to communicate effectively including negotiating skills and conflict management. The post holder must have demonstrable experience of audit design, implementation and evaluation. The post holder will be able to demonstrate knowledge of risk management process and systems and have experience of the wider public health agenda. The post holder will have experience of teaching or training. Experience Essential criteria - Experience of multi-disciplinary working to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk. Experience of working in clinical care settings with children/families whose needs are complex and varied. Experience of critically analysing practice in order to improve outcomes for children, young people and adults at risk. Knowledge Essential criteria - The post holder should have and detailed understanding of inter-agency safeguarding procedures and have in depth understanding of the statutory responsibilities to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk. Have an awareness of the importance of effective interagency collaboration. Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks. The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work. Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
