Simulator Engineer – Shift LeadLocation: Burgess HillShift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (days, nights, or mixed)About the RoleArden White Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment are currently working with a leading and well-established aviation training and simulation organisation, supporting commercial flight operations within the wider airline and business aviation sector.Our client is seeking an experienced Simulator Engineer – Shift Lead to join their Burgess Hill training facility. This is a newly created position, introduced to strengthen shift coverage and long-term operational resilience following upcoming retirements within the team.Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this role offers genuine responsibility, visibility, and the opportunity to step into a formal leadership position within a technically strong, close-knit engineering environment.Role OverviewThe Simulator Engineer – Shift Lead will be responsible for the day-to-day running and proactive maintenance of up to four commercial Full Flight Simulators (FFS). Acting as the technical and operational lead during their shift, the successful candidate will oversee maintenance activity, support junior technicians, and act as a key interface with flight crews and instructors.This role suits an experienced Simulator Technician who has already taken on informal or “acting lead” responsibilities and is now ready to formalise that step.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & OperationalPerform preventive and routine maintenance on Full Flight Simulators and associated systemsLead fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance activitiesCarry out visual alignments, calibrations, and secondary technical dutiesReview, check, and mark up Qualification Test Guide (QTG) resultsConduct workshop repairs including soldering and crimpingManage logistics activities including parts receipt, repair coordination, testing, and validationAccurately record and track maintenance activity using the maintenance management systemLeadership & Team SupportAct as the primary technical and leadership point of contact during the shiftProvide guidance, training, and support to junior Simulator TechniciansTake ownership of shift activity and ensure effective task prioritisationMaintain clear communication with Flight Crews and Instructor PilotsCompliance, Safety & QualityEnsure all tasks are completed in accordance with regulatory and company proceduresIdentify and report hazards, risks, or non-compliances to the Maintenance ManagerContribute to continuous improvement of processes and proceduresComply with the company Safety Management System and Health & Safety requirementsProduce RAMS for non-routine or unique tasksEnsure adherence to risk assessments, COSHH, and Lockout/Tagout proceduresMaintain compliance with the QSL Quality Management SystemBe familiar with Part ORA and CS-FSTD(A) regulatory requirementsAdditional ResponsibilitiesCarry out housekeeping duties to maintain simulator environmentsComplete administrative tasks as requiredSupport ad hoc building maintenance activities when necessaryWorking Pattern4 on / 4 off shift rotationShifts may consist of days, nights, or a combination (e.g. 2 days / 2 nights)Role supports a 24/7 operation, requiring flexibilityEssential Knowledge & ExperienceStrong fault-finding and corrective maintenance capabilityWorking knowledge of:Hydraulic motion systemsElectrical motion systemsControl loading systemsSimulator visual systemsExperience with simulator hardware repair and diagnosticsKnowledge of simulation software systemsProven track record of completing preventative and routine maintenanceExperience running and checking QTG schedulesDesirable ExperienceExperience on Boeing and/or Airbus simulators, particularly B737 and A320Exposure to CAE, FSI, Sim Industries, TRU, or L3 devicesPrevious leadership, shift lead, or acting-lead experienceCustomer-facing or client support backgroundStrong electrical, electronic, or avionic systems knowledgeQualifications (Desirable)HNC / HND in an aircraft-related disciplineHNC / HND in Electrical or Electronic EngineeringCulture & EnvironmentFlat management structure with minimal hierarchyNo internal politics, technical competence and teamwork are valuedSmall-company feel with strong collaborationFast, streamlined interview process (typically 1–2 stages)Apply TodayOur client is actively looking to appoint and move quickly.Arden White takes pride in the quality of service we offer our clients and candidates alike.
