Production EngineerA specialist electro-mechanical manufacturer in the defence and critical systems space is looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to support the full product lifecycle across a growing portfolio of engineered systems. This role suits someone who enjoys responsibility, variety and working in a tight-knit SME environment where you can make a visible impact.About the RoleAs a Production Engineer, you’ll bridge engineering design and production, ensuring products are manufacturable, cost-effective and delivered to the required quality standards. You’ll support New Product Introduction (NPI), optimise manufacturing processes, drive improvements, and provide day-to-day technical support to production teams. The role includes visibility across both legacy and new products, with exposure to mechanical, electrical and system-level assemblies.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the interface between engineering design and production to ensure efficient manufactureSupport NPI processes and the transition from prototype to volume buildDevelop and maintain work instructions, process documentation and quality checksDrive process improvements across quality, throughput and costTroubleshoot production issues and provide technical support to shop floor teamsSpecify and/or design jigs, fixtures, tooling and test equipmentSupport product testing and safe operational practicesProvide oversight to quality support functionsRequirementsDegree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline5+ years’ experience in a production engineering role within mechanical/electrical manufacturingExperience working across both engineering and hands-on production environmentsKnowledge of assembly, integration and build processes for electro-mechanical systemsStrong documentation and quality system capabilityDesirableProduct or system testing experienceExposure to regulated or defence-related productsBackground in Design Engineering and/or CAD proficiencyWhat’s OfferedPermanent position with competitive salary circa £50k (DOE)Varied and hands-on responsibilities typical of a growing SMEOpportunity to influence manufacturing processes and product lifecycle decisionsExposure to complex, high-reliability electro-mechanical systems in a niche sectorClose collaboration with engineering, operations, quality and design functions
