Qualified Social Worker – Safeguarding & Review A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Social Worker to step into a Child Protection Chair / Independent Reviewing Officer role within a well-established Safeguarding & Review service. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children, confident in chairing complex meetings, and committed to high-quality, restorative social work practice. The Role You will chair Child Protection Conferences, Looked-After Children Reviews, Strategy Meetings and provide independent oversight of planning and practice. Working closely with internal social work teams, multi-agency partners, and senior leaders, you will ensure statutory requirements are met and that each child’s plan is robust, appropriate, and consistently progressed. This is a role where you will influence practice, support quality assurance activity, and contribute to the development of high standards across children’s services. You will also promote participation, ensuring the voices of children, young people, and families are central to decision-making. Key Responsibilities * Chair Child Protection Conferences and Looked-After Reviews within statutory timescales. * Provide independent scrutiny of care planning and safeguarding practice. * Ensure that plans, risk assessments, and interventions are compliant with legislation and local procedures. * Promote high-quality multi-agency working and effective partnership practice. * Track progress of allocated cases and follow up on required actions. * Highlight good practice and challenge deficits in practice where required. * Support the development of policy, procedures, and quality assurance activity. * Champion the participation of children, young people, and families. * Offer constructive challenge to social workers and managers to support safe, outcome-focused practice. About You To be successful in this role, you will need: * A recognised Social Work qualification and active registration. * Minimum 5 years’ post-qualifying experience within Children’s Social Care. * Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Working Together, Care Planning Regulations and safeguarding frameworks. * Excellent chairing skills and experience leading multi-agency meetings. * Confidence to provide independent challenge and oversight to senior managers and practitioners. * Strong communication, conflict-resolution, and time-management skills. * Commitment to restorative practice, participation, and continuous service improvement.
