Behaviour Mentor / SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant Primary School | Specialist Behaviour Support Unit About the Role Teach Now Recruitment is working in partnership with a happy, nurturing primary school in the heart of the Haringey community to appoint a Behaviour Mentor / SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly created specialist unit within the school, designed to support pupils who are struggling particularly with challenging behaviour. The aim of the unit is to provide early, targeted intervention and prevent permanent exclusions, helping children to re-engage positively with learning. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with SEMH needs, including children displaying trauma-informed behaviours, emotional regulation difficulties, and occasional physical or verbal outbursts. About the School • A thriving two-form entry primary school with nursery • Educates children aged 3–11 • Deeply rooted in the local Haringey community • A caring, welcoming and inclusive environment • Strong focus on nurturing the whole child • High-quality teaching alongside a holistic curriculum Key Responsibilities • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs • Support children with challenging behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development • Work within the specialist behaviour unit to support reintegration into mainstream learning • Implement trauma-informed approaches and positive behaviour strategies • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams • Help create a calm, safe and structured learning environment The Ideal Candidate Will Have • Experience working with SEMH pupils or children with challenging behaviour • A calm, resilient and patient approach • Understanding of trauma-informed behaviours • Ability to manage behaviours ranging from emotional distress to occasional lashing out • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children • Experience in a primary school, SEN setting or alternative provision (desirable) What’s on Offer • Competitive daily rate of £100–£110 per day • Full-time, consistent hours (no evenings or weekends) • Opportunity to be part of a new and impactful provision • Supportive leadership and pastoral-focused environment • Excellent experience for candidates pursuing careers in SEN, behaviour support, pastoral care, educational psychology or teaching.
