Technical Engineer £50,000 - £55,000 Dartford Are you a rolling stock engineer with a strong electrical bias, deep fleet knowledge, and a desire to step away from the tools without losing your technical edge? This is a permanent opportunity supporting a well-established UK rail operation, working with a mature EMU fleet that has seen extensive modification over its lifetime. If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges where historic mods, legacy systems, and documentation don’t always align, this role will genuinely interest you. You’ll be joining a technical function that acts as the engineering backbone for production teams, providing hands-on technical support without being hands-on with the tools. Key elements of the role include: Acting as a technical authority for electrical systems on an established rolling stock fleet Supporting production and maintenance teams with fault investigation, technical queries, and modification issues Interpreting legacy documentation, engineering change history, and past modifications that may now present new challenges Providing engineering input that keeps fleets safe, compliant, and operational. The environment suits engineers who understand older rolling stock platforms and how decades of upgrades can impact today’s maintenance and reliability. Permanent role with long-term stability Off the tools – use your knowledge, not your spanners. Hybrid working approximately 3 days per week on site, remainder flexible/remote. High-impact technical role with visibility across engineering and production Opportunity to influence decisions and improve fleet performance without shift work. This is ideal for engineers currently in maintenance, technical, or fleet roles who want to future-proof their career. To be considered, you’ll need: Proven experience within rail rolling stock engineering. Strong electrical bias (essential) Background supporting or maintaining established Fleets HNC or Degree-level qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Rail Engineering Confidence providing technical support, advice, and engineering solutions to operational teams.
