About The Role Legal Collections Clerk Full Time SUMMARY/PRIME OBJECTIVES The Legal Collections Clerk works within the Legal Collections Team on the Credit Management Department and is principally responsible for managing a set of customers who have had court proceedings issued against them by PHS, with a view to maximising cash collection whilst minimising the costs associated with Litigation. This role involves debtor contact by both letter and telephone and will involve occasional attendance in court. The Incumbent will be organised, professional at all times and familiar with legal and credit related processes and PHS computer systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Hitting collection targets set, maximising cash collection whilst minimising costs. Liasing with Defendants who have had Legal Actions issued against them, including negotiating payment plans and settlements as required Vetting accounts for Litigation Representing PHS at Court Hearings and Mediation Appointments. Preparing Trial Bundles, Witness Statement, Statements of Claimant and Court papers Arranging affidavits via our local solicitors Enforcing Judgments to recover debt Raising payments, logging and authorising invoices for the costs involved in Legal actions Posting, recording and reconciling all cash, including costs & interest received. Liasing with Courts, Enforcement Officers, Solicitors and Legal agents, representing both PHS and our Defendants Investigating and responding to Defences/disputes received Dealing with inbound mail and e-mails from the courts and from Defendants or their solicitors Management of cases on Wildebeest including opening, modifying, updating and closing them as appropriate. Maintaining a personal work-pool via PHS Legal Database which includes following workflows, actioning and diarising tasks for follow up action on Defendant cases (diary management) Writing to Debtors or their solicitors as required, pro-actively and re-actively Maintenance of statistical data Any other reasonable duty ATTRIBUTES Legal Collections Clerks are required to be forthright characters with sound communication and listening skills. They should also be accomplished negotiators and be able to stand firmly behind their own decisions. They are organised and able to prioritise their own workload. They are also comfortable in the interrogation of ledgers, including complex credits and debits .
