Royal Army Medical Service The Royal Army Medical Service (RAMS) is responsible for maintaining the health of servicemen and women. The Corps is represented wherever British Soldiers are deployed, providing medical support to operations, exercises and Adventurous Training expeditions all over the world. Key Responsibilities Give first aid on the battlefield Provide medical training to the Army Supply medical support on all kinds of operations and exercises Help with medical evacuations in hostile conditions Provide health education to the Army Entry requirements Age: From16 years & 6 monthsto35 years & 6 months Qualifications: Minimum of GCSE Grade A - C/9-4, or Scottish equivalent, in at least English Language and Maths. Alternatives not accepted. Basic physical fitness assessment: Mid Thigh Pull 50kg Medicine Ball Throw 2.7m 2km run 11 min 30 sec More information about the fitness test Training for the role Step 1 Basic military training teaches you how to be a soldier. This covers everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle. Step 2 Youll then learn how to be a Combat Medical Technician at the Defence School of Healthcare Training, Litchfield, during trade training. This takes 22 weeks. When you finish, youll be a Class 2 Combat Medical Technician, with a level 3 Diploma and Care Certificate. Trade training includes theory and practical modules, as well as clinical placements in Defence Primary Healthcare medical centres. Qualifications you could get after training Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support upon completion of the apprenticeship, awarded by City and Guilds Pay & benefits You'll earn 25,200 a year from the start of your training, which will go up as you progress throughout your career.
