Senior Engineer – Highways & Development Control (Contract)We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways & Development Control) for a hybrid contract role in London, starting January 2026.This role sits within a Highways Development Control team and would suit someone with strong local authority experience who is confident acting as a statutory consultee on planning applications.Key responsibilities:Reviewing and responding to planning applications with transport impactActing as statutory consultee for highways and transport mattersAuthorising and monitoring highway works, including S278 / S38 agreementsSupporting construction management plans, travel plans, and highways adoptionDeputising for senior management when requiredWorking closely with planners, developers, and internal stakeholdersDelivering a high standard of customer and stakeholder engagementKey requirements:Proven experience in Highways Development Control within a UK local authorityStrong knowledge of S278 / S38, planning processes, and highways adoptionAbility to manage multiple applications and stakeholder relationshipsFull UK driving licenceEligible to work in the UKWilling to undergo DBS (or already hold one)Contract details:Start: January 2026Duration: 13 weeksHours: 36 per weekIR35: InsideWork pattern: HybridLocation: LondonIf you’re a Senior or Principal-level Highways / Development Control Engineer looking for a short-term contract where you can add immediate value, I’d be keen to speak.
