Job Description

Job summary The Fellowship will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which is one of the busiest units in the UK. Typically, there is an annual turnover of over 900 day-cases, 1,500 elective cases and 1,700 emergencies. Outpatient activity typically includes over 5,000 new and 9,000 follow-up patients per year. There are 16 neurosurgical trainees and an in-house fellowship in spinal surgery. However, there are no formal fellowships in cranial neurosurgery.The neurosurgical oncology service provides 300-400 diagnostic procedures annually. A well‑established MDT includes neuro‑oncology, neurology, neuroradiology, neuropathology, specialist nurses, speech & language therapists, occupational & physiotherapists, and neuropsychologists. A dedicated neurosurgical oncology clinic has been established as point‑of‑entry for patients with a wide range of tumour types into specialist care pathways supported by specialist consultant neurosurgeons. Dedicated operating lists are available 3 days per week with additional ad hoc lists as required.
