Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist The closing date is 05 March 2026Are you a child and adolescent psychiatrist with a passion for working with children and young people? Are you interested in working in a dynamic and innovative CAMHS team?This is an exciting opportunity for a child and adolescent psychiatrist to join one of our well‑established, diverse and supportive CAMHS teams.Adolescent and Young Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Service (AYAS) is a CAMHS service supporting children and young people's emotional wellbeing needs with evidence‑based therapeutic interventions. AYAS is comprised of a varied multi‑disciplinary team, staffed by experienced CAMHS clinicians including educational psychologists, child psychotherapists, social workers, systemic family therapists, refugee care specialists and trainees from those disciplines.AYAS is part of the Child Complex Service within the Complex Mental Health Service Line. We work closely with partners from referring local authorities, schools and voluntary agencies.Candidates are requested to use the section "Supporting Information" on the application form to set out their reasons for applying and their suitability, referring to the person specification, for this post.Main duties of the jobProvide intake, assessment consultations and psychotherapy assessments of patients referred to the Adolescent and Young Adult Service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including formal psychological testing and interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.Make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or groups. This will include the recognition and understanding of how race, religion, age, disability, gender, class, culture, ethnicity and sexual orientation affect individuals, families or groups.Be responsible for implementing a range of psychoanalytically based psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining formulations and drawing on different explanatory models.Formulate and devise treatment and management plans for referred patients based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems, taking into account multiple theoretical perspectives and employing methods based on evidence of efficacy across the full range of care settings.Provide clinical supervision to trainees and less experienced practitioners.Provide consultation as required to external agencies.About us The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (T&P) is the main provider of CAMHS services to Camden, and provides a range of regional and national mental‑health services.The Education and Training Directorate provides training for clinicians, social workers, nurses, teachers and many other professionals. The clinician‑tutor model and multidisciplinary approach ensures courses are relevant, transformative and empowering.There are three service lines within the Trust: Children and Families Unit, Camden Unit and Adult Unit. Adolescent and Young Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Service comes under the Complex Mental Health Service Line.Overall, there are 30 multidisciplinary teams in the Trust providing services from pre‑birth up to the age of 25. There are 30 Medical Consultants in the Trust. The services cover generic whole‑area child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) through to highly specialist local and national services.Job responsibilities Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification for more information on the role requirements and duties.Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING/EDUCATIONMB BS or equivalent medical qualificationCCT in Child and Adolescent PsychiatryQualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.Additional clinical qualificationsFully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or within six months.Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.Skills, Knowledge & ExperianceAble to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.Wide experience and skill of therapeutic work with children, young people and their families.Evidence of working flexibly with team members and with young people, providing appointments in a range of community settings.Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust£109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum pro rata, plus London Weighting#J-18808-Ljbffr
