Facilities TechnicianLocation: (Onsite) — PlymouthSalary: £34,000 – £38,000We're hiring a Facilities Technician to work onsite in Plymouth, ensuring all environmental conditions are maintained at all times across critical building systems. You'll carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) plus reactive and breakdown works across mechanical and electrical systems.The roleAs Facilities Technician, you'll be hands-on with day-to-day building services operations, fault finding, and safe delivery of maintenance activities in a live, critical environment.Key responsibilitiesComplete reactive tasks across the building and proactively highlight improvement opportunitiesCarry out PPM, reactive and breakdown maintenance across mechanical and electrical systemsEnsure suitable spares are available; provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial worksCommunicate site updates where required (e.g., planned works, remedials, access requirements)Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including correct use of PPEKeep plant rooms secure (locked) and maintained in a clean, tidy conditionSupervise and monitor subcontractors while they are onsiteSupport holiday/sickness cover at short notice and remain flexible with working patternsEnsure assigned tasks are actioned and completed with appropriate H&S awarenessOperate a Permit to Work system in line with site Health & Safety proceduresRemain flexible later in the day in the event of an emergency or if a critical alarm appears on the BMSUse computers confidently for email communication and to quote/order partsWhat you'll be working withYou should be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge of:HV and LV electrical servicesControl panelsAHUs, pumps and motorsFault finding using the BMS and current alarm dataAbout youCompleted an apprenticeship and hold a Level 3 technical/vocational qualification (or Level 3 Diploma) in a relevant disciplineKnowledge of electrical systems, BMS systems, HVAC, boilers/boiler control systems, and emergency lightingFundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical and other utility systemsUp to 2 years' electrical facilities experience, with strong flexibility and a practical, improvement-minded approachExperience in facilities equipment fault finding and maintenance activitiesExperience across building services (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Systems, Building Fabric, etc.)Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivatedGood report writing skills and PC literateAble to assess urgency and impact (e.g., safety-critical vs routine maintenance)DesirableCity & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 or BS 7671 (18th Edition)
