Role / Job Title: BIW - Lead Engineer Work Location: UK, Gaydon Mode of Working: Office based (5 days a week) The Role As a BIW Lead Engineer, you will be: supporting all engineering activities related to Design & Release of BIW commodities, from concept to launch and working closely with interfacing component owners, Purchasing, STA, Manufacturing and suppliers Evaluating and implementing cost reduction (VAVE) proposals Your Responsibilities (Up to 10, Avoid repetition) Delivering engineering solutions for both prototype and production parts Optimized design solutions for weight, cost, manufacturing feasibility, quality and functional attributes Ensure adherence to OEM specific processes and procedures to deliver robust, fully validated geometric compatible commodities Ensure adherence to OEM specific PLM standards Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clearly communicate design status to key stakeholders such as manufacturing, suppliers, component owners and management Your Profile Essential Skills / Knowledge / Experience (Up to 10, Avoid repetition) Good hands-on experience in automotive BIW (Core body, vehicle structure, upper & under body, closures, front hood, tail gate, under body cover) Good Knowledge and experience in NPD (New product development) with respect to complete automotive body system Proficient in sheet metal design Proficient in tooling, Jigs & fixture - concepts, assembly and manufacturing Good experience in concept design, layout making, benchmarking, master sections, A/B/C class of surface, packaging study and fixing concepts Good understanding of vehicle program milestones Experience in managing supplier teams for the delivery of program milestones Experience in ensuring design solutions meeting program level targets for cost & weight, legal regulations & DV requirements, optical quality and Product Audit requirements Experience in maintaining commodity documentation up to date including meeting minutes, foundation & program DFMEAs, DFM/DFA, quality history & bill of design Experience in creating and maintaining of BOM, 3D models, 2D drawing and GD&T using CATIA V5/V6 and tolerance stack up Capable of handling project independently and working closely with CAE team for achieving the desired targets (Functional and NVH) Supporting in creating and updating supplier RFI/RFQ Experience in complying with the commodity / System and vehicle level test requirement with detail planning of test & development Knowledge of issue management and build support Experience in automotive BIW (core body, vehicle structure, upper & under body, closures, front hood, tail gate, under body cover), 3DX, Catia V5/V6 Desirable Skills / Knowledge / Experience (As applicable) Creating and proposing alternative solutions considering VAVE ideas Working knowledge of problem resolution techniques & Root cause analysis techniques (e.g. Six Sigma, 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D, Ishikawa) TPBN1_UKTJ
