Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance FitterLocation: Shrewsbury (SY3)Job Type: Contract Role (Day Shifts & Evening Shifts)Job Length: 3+ month contractStart Date: February/March 2026Industry: Maintenance, Aggregates, Building Materials, Manufacturing, ProductionPay Rate: £18.00 - £24.00 Per Hour (Rate Negotiable based on Experience & DIRECT PAYE or UMBRELLA PAYE Preference)Our client, a materials and aggregates provider is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to work on their Quarry in Shrewsbury, able to offer circa 3-months work for the right candidate.This role includes working with Technicians on site, supporting them with planned and unplanned maintenance activities in a quarry environment, working between a fabrication workshop environment, through to installation activities on plant and machinery across the production facility.The ideal candidate will be time served, or have an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering / maintenance, ideally coming with an ONC/HNC, NVQ or similar. Applicable candidate will have worked in similar environments, completing maintenance to production equipment and machinery.Daily duties will include but are not limited to:Mechanical fitting within a heavy industrial setting, for planned and reactive maintenance of plant + workshop equipment, including but not limited to:Conveyors, Drive systems, Motors, Belts, Pumps, Gearboxes, Crushers, Vibratory ScreensPulleys, Bearings, Shafts, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Rollers, Side SkirtsRemoval and fitting of bearingsResponding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely mannerCompleting temporary fixes, followed up with more permanent solutionsUndertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipmentManaging small projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive mannerParticipating in root cause analysis, so repeat failures can be eliminatedContributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering functionWelding and Fabricating to a good standard (Stick, MIG, Propane, Oxy etc)Contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair proceduresFault-finding to identify defects and recommending appropriate actionWorking within a fabrication workshop with lifting and lowering equipment + techniquesSuggesting and implementing continuous improvementsUpdating computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried outCandidates will ideally:Be time served / Have an apprenticeship in a mechanical engineering / maintenanceHold a relevant qualification such as an ONC/HNC or NVQ (desirable but not essential)Proven mechanical fitter and maintenance experience in a continuous heavy process industryExperience working within a quarry setting (desirable but not essential) – MP Connect Card PreferredExperience of Welding, Experience of Workshop Fabrication, General fitting and installation on siteExperience of Working at HeightGood knowledge of heavy manufacturing process or other related heavy industrial machineryStrong Health, Safety and Environmental awarenessFor more information or to apply for the role, please contact Tim Smyth on 0121 200 5520.JBRP1_UKTJ
