Job Title: Light Vehicle TechnicianOrganisation: Humberside PoliceLocation: Melton, East YorkshireRole OverviewWork within a modern, state-of-the-art vehicle maintenance facility supporting Humberside Police operations.Ensure police vehicles, plant, and specialist equipment are maintained to the highest safety and operational standards.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect, service, maintain, and repair a wide range of light vehicles, plant, and specialist police vehicle equipment.Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.Maintain, install, and fit operational and specialist equipment to vehicles as required.Diagnose faults accurately and complete repairs in line with manufacturer and organisational standards.Ensure all work is completed in compliance with health and safety regulations.Maintain accurate records of inspections, servicing, and repairs.Work collaboratively with the Workshop Supervisor and wider team to support operational readiness.Skills & AttributesStrong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.Ability to work methodically and to high standards of accuracy.Awareness of health and safety procedures within a workshop environment.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Flexible and reliable approach to workload demands.ESSENTIALCity and Guilds 3 in LGV motor vehicle technology or NVQ equivalent.Literate and numerate/ educated to GCSE level or equivalent at Grade C incl. English and Maths.A full driving licence.MOT tester or willing to undertake qualification.achieve air conditioning accreditation within the 6 month probation period.Hold master technician status in a vehicle product (qualification awarded by manufacturer)Possess a detailed practical working knowledge of LGV, passenger cars and light commercial vehiclesWorking knowledge and experience of using computerised and other types of diagnostic equipmentTechnical problem solving, fault finding and resolution.Extensive knowledge and ability to use diagnostic equipment and softwareWorking knowledge and awareness to health and safety issues relating to to vehicle maintenance and workshop environmentsPossess good written and verbal communication skillsGood interpersonal skills and able to liaise at all levelsCoaching skills including the ability to give advice and guidance and to check understanding and learningDemonstrate the ability to use own initiative and judgement on a range of routine issues.Methodical and logical approach to work/tasks undertaken, displaying significant attention to detail with an ability to effectively prioritise.Must be physically capable of meeting the demands of the roleGood understanding of the importance of the customer service and working with clientson occasions, you may be required to work outside in inclement weather conditions, suitable protective workwear will be provided.On occasions you may be required to work alone.
