We're Hiring: Highways Lighting OperativeBase Location: SlinfoldContract: Temporary – 7 months, with potential to extend/become a permanent roleDo you want a hands-on role that genuinely makes a difference to communities every day? We're looking for a Highways Lighting Operative to join a well-established street lighting operation responsible for over one million lights across the UK.Our work helps towns and cities become safer, smarter, greener, and more energy efficient—and we're proud to play a part in reducing carbon footprints nationwide. Now we need someone like you to help keep the lights on.What you'll be doingAs a Highways Lighting Operative, you'll be out on the network ensuring street lighting and highway assets are safe, functional, and reliable. Your work will directly improve visibility and road safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.Your day-to-day will include:Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing street lighting, traffic signs, and street furnitureResponding quickly to lighting faults and outagesDiagnosing and fixing electrical issues (wiring, switches, ballasts, control systems)Replacing lamps, cleaning fixtures, and repairing damaged componentsWorking with colleagues to plan repairs while minimising traffic disruptionOperating specialist equipment such as MEWPs and electrical testing devicesRecording work completed, materials used, and asset data via a handheld tabletAlways working safely and in line with health 'safety regulationsWhat we're looking forYou'll already have experience in the electrical or construction industry, and you'll enjoy practical, outdoor work.Essential skills & experience:Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilityComfortable using a tablet or digital system for job loggingGreat attention to detailConfident using tools for digging and installing lighting columnsPhysically fit and happy working outdoors, at height, and in all weatherA good communicator who works well with colleagues and the publicFull UK driving licence (Class 2 HGV is a bonus)Nice to have (but not essential)IPAF or PASMA certificationG39 Electrical Safety TrainingExperience in public lighting, highways, or infrastructure worksExperience installing lighting columns and associated groundworkWhy apply?Be part of work that genuinely improves communitiesDevelop specialist skills in a growing sectorOpportunity to extend beyond the initial contractJoin a supportive, safety-focused teamIf you're practical, safety-minded, and want a role where your work is visible every night—we'd love to hear from you.Apply today and help keep our roads safely lit.
