Company descriptionHousing SolicitorSalary: £41,772 - £44,300 per annum plus excellent benefits (The salary advertised reflects the pay award effective from 1st April 2026)Location: Walsall, West Midlands (minimum of 2 days in office with court attendance as required)Contract: Full Time, Permanent, 37 hours per weekClosing Date: 2nd March 2026Interview Date: 9th and 16th March 2026Were looking for a newly qualified Housing Solicitor to join our Legal team and help deliver high-quality legal services that support our communities and protect our homes.This is an exciting opportunity to build your career in social housing law, working on meaningful cases that directly impact customers, neighbourhoods and communities.Youll support the delivery of legal services to whg by providing advice and representation across a range of housing litigation matters. Working closely with the Housing Litigation Manager and wider Legal team, youll manage your own caseload while contributing to a collaborative, supportive environment. Job descriptionMain job responsibilities:Managing a varied caseload of housing management matters including disrepair, rent possession, injunctions, tenancy succession and neighbourhood issuesPreparing cases for court, drafting pleadings, witness statements and legal documentationRepresenting whg in hearings across the County Court, Magistrates Court and First-tier TribunalAdvising colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options relating to social housingWorking closely with operational teams to support service delivery and case outcomesEnsuring compliance with legislation, court procedures, Civil Procedure Rules and professional standardsSupporting knowledge sharing across the organisation, including informal guidance and updates on changes in law Required profileWe're looking for someone who has:Newly qualified as a solicitor with a valid Practising Certificate with at least a minimum of one strong training seat in housing management or litigationA keen interest in social housing law, including an understanding of relevant legislation and case law.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to colleaguesA collaborative attitude and be proactive in building strong working relationships.Experience in advising on and assisting with litigation, including casework and Court appearances.Experience of understanding and implementing Civil Procedure RulesStrong organisational and time management skills.Experience in court advocacy and case preparation.Good legal drafting skillsStrong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detailProficiency using legal databases and MS Office suiteGood research skillsCommitted team player and ability to adapt well to new challengesAbility to develop and sustain strong relationships with colleagues and third-party stakeholdersThe ability to show resilience when dealing with challenging situations.Keep up to date of any changes in legislation and court procedures.Maintain professional propriety when dealing with customers who may be in a state of distress during court proceedings.Experience of using a case management system (desirable) What we offerWhats in it for you?In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 27 days annual leave (plus Christmas shut down), a defined benefit pension scheme, health cash plan, a range of shopping and leisure discounts.We are output focused and flexible and believe in giving colleagues the right balance of autonomy and support to enable them to work to their full potential.
