The OpportunityWe have an opportunity for an ambitious Associate Structural Engineer to play a key role in delivering across our diverse portfolio of projects while taking a senior role in supporting running our team at our Reading office.Working on our prestigious projects you will need to manage and be able to undertake all aspects of the engineering design and financial management of the projects. You would be responsible for leading projects from concept through to completion, guiding teams, shaping design strategies, and building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders. You'll have the autonomy to influence technical direction, contribute to the strategic direction of the team all whilst being supported by a wider collaborative, forward thinking team. Operating at the intersection of technical excellence and team leadership this role has lots of opportunity for continue career development.What you need to do to excel in this roleProvide high-level technical oversight, mentor junior engineers, and review design work to ensure quality and consistencyPrepare detailed structural calculations in accordance with Eurocodes and relevant design guidance, and oversee the production of drawings, specifications, and reports.Undertake structural surveys, diagnose issues, and provide clear advice on defects, remediation strategies, and potential risksAttend site during construction to monitor progress, address technical queries, and support contractors in delivering compliant solutionsSupport business development through bid preparation, proposal writing, and active client engagementAssist in negotiating fee proposals and securing additional fees where requiredMonitor project profitability, including planning, forecasting, and cost control taking responsibility for delivering work to agreed scopes, fees, and deadlinesThe skills and experience you need to have for this roleExperience leading projects and managing client relationshipsProject experience throughout the stages of the RIBA plan of workFamiliar and empathetic with all forms of building construction and a reliable designer in structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry and timberPossess a good working knowledge of Software such as SCIA, Tekla and TEDDS or similarExperience of refurbishment and change of use designs as well as new build workIdeally Chartered professional status (MIStructE or MICE)A relevant engineering qualification (BEng or equivalent)Hold current UK driving licenceEssential Personal SkillsA self-starter, with a proactive mindset and motivated in delivering high qualityGood people management skillsTeam playerAble to work with minimal supervision but provide continual feedbackBe personable, confident and a good communicatorJBRP1_UKTJ
