Permanent Consultant Physician – Stroke MedicineJob SummaryA Consultant in Stroke Medicine is required to provide specialist clinical leadership and expert care across the full spectrum of acute and post-acute stroke services. The post-holder will manage hyperacute stroke admissions, lead multidisciplinary stroke care, support TIA and follow-up clinics, and contribute to service development, quality improvement and research.Location: SussexJob Type: PermanentSalary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year per annumKey ResponsibilitiesAcute and Hyperacute Care• Provide expert assessment and management of hyperacute stroke patients, including coordination of thrombolysis and thrombectomy pathways.• Attend emergency stroke calls with the on-call stroke team and coordinate referrals and transfers for advanced interventions.• Conduct inpatient reviews, including complex cases and patients in intensive care.Outpatient and Clinic Services• Run TIA and Stroke outpatient clinics, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate follow-up.• Manage administrative duties associated with outpatient and inpatient services.Multidisciplinary Teamwork• Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality stroke care pathways.• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff to facilitate shared decision-making.On-Call and Rotas• Participate in defined weekend and on-call rotas to ensure continuous stroke cover.Service Development & Governance• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, audit and service planning.• Support innovation and improvement within the stroke service and wider care pathways.Person SpecificationQualifications & Registration• Medical degree and specialist qualification relevant to Stroke Medicine.• Full professional registration with licence to practise.• Entry on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT/CESR.Experience & Skills• Extensive experience in stroke medicine and general internal medicine practice.• Demonstrated ability to manage complex acute and hyperacute cases.• Strong leadership capabilities and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.• Effective communication skills with patients, carers and clinical colleagues.
